Henley 1-2 Yateley
The ladies were away at Henley on Saturday with Nat stepping into captain the squad as Ruth was out due to injury. Unfortunately, injury meant only taking a squad of 12 players and we knew this was going to be a tough match in this league with only one sub.
The pace in the opening minutes was high and Yateley asserted their dominance early with Hannah firing in shots that seemed to skim the outside of the left post.
Hannah and Na linked up well in the middle with Kealey, Nat, Becks and Caty working hard up front to give Henley little time on the ball.
Cara and Jen were rocks at CB and Henley were frustrated at the few chances that came their way as the balls were picked off the end of their sticks. Working incredibly well as a defensive unit, Caz, Emma and Clara combined to prevent Henley having many chances.
Towards the end of the second half, the Yateley pressure earned a penalty stroke as a shot hit a Henley foot on the line. Jen calmly slotted the ball away to give Yateley a 1-0 win going into the second half.
Tired legs showed in the second half and Henley were determined to get a goal and unfortunately some Yateley errors allowed this to happen to bring the score to 1-1.
Gill had to be on her toes as she made some great saves and commanded the D. Finally, Yateley started to win some corners and, with only 2 minutes to go, a slight variation on a usual corner routine resulted in Hannah firing home the winner to make the final score 2-1 to Yateley.
