Remembering Andy Speed

Dear YHC family

I'm sorry to let you all know that sadly our friend Andy Speed recently passed away. Unfortunately Andy had not been in the best of health for the last couple of years, and deteriorated over the last 12 months or so.

Andy, who was universally known as “Speedy”, was a former men's 1s and 2s captain, and one of the most prolific goal scorers the club has ever known. Speedy helped the men’s 1s win the Hampshire Trophy twice, and was a key part of the team that secured the men’s 1s first regional league promotion. Much more than that, he was a big part of the club for many years, especially on the social side. He was a fun loving and very charming man, always ready with a welcoming smile and keen for a beer and a chat.

He will be fondly remembered by many of us.

We don't have any details regarding funeral arrangements yet, but will forward any information in due course.

If teams would like to observe a minute's silence before this weekend's matches, it would be a greatly appreciated mark of respect.

Rest in peace dear friend. Say hi to Reggie and Biddy.
