Yateley 3-12 Alton
The U16 boys made their way to a very windy and wet home match to face off 2nd of league Alton this Sunday afternoon.
We knew it would be a tough one, but we went into it with fighting talk and a passion to come out of it with 3 points.
The first 10 minutes it was even stevens and the boys really held their own, playing some slick hockey up and down the pitch, finding each other, calling and passing well.
Between then and half time though, Alton managed to slip in 6, which frustrated the boys and their heads went down.
With a cool, calm and positive half time talk, the boys went back out looking like a new team... they’ve always had a better second half this season, I have to admit ;-)
They went back on the pitch, soaking wet, and scored 3 very well worked goals. The passing, calling and finding space was much better, they were winning the 50/50 balls and looked very in control... they definitely had the sugar rush from half time (they went through 4 packs of sweets) and worked their socks off until the bitter wet end...
However, despite the better form in play, we just couldn’t quite get enough in the back of the net to equalise and finished 12-3, which is absolutely not a true reflection of the game!
Well done boys, you’ve had a great season and worked very well together when it’s mattered...
Enjoy your men’s hockey for those moving out of the U16 world next season ??
MOM - Callum (AKA the machine), for his unbelievable 100% work rate for the whole 70 minutes, his positive attitude and the difference he made to the game ?
Big thanks to Kev for being our umpire?
